Roles and responsibilities of a medical scribe :
1. Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently: The medical scribe is responsible for documenting the patient’s visit, including history, physical exam, diagnosis, and treatment plan, into the patient’s electronic medical record.
2. Assist in ordering tests and treatments: The medical scribe may enter orders for tests, treatments, and medications into the EMR and ensure that the patient is scheduled for them in a timely manner.
3. Assist with patient flow: The medical scribe may help ensure that the patient moves through the appointment efficiently, such as making sure the patient is taken to the appropriate exam room on time and that any necessary paperwork is completed.
4. Monitor patient vitals: The medical scribe may be responsible for taking and documenting the patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate.
5. Answer routine questions: The medical scribe may be responsible for answering routine questions from patients, such as how to fill out forms or where to go for follow-up appointments.
6. Perform other administrative duties: The medical scribe may also be responsible for other administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments, managing medical supplies, and filing paperwork.
