MEDICAL SCRIBING
A medical scribe is a person who works alongside healthcare providers to document patient interactions. They document the patient’s medical history, chief complaint, vitals, medications, treatments, and any other necessary information.
Before visits and procedures, they locate and prepare patient records for doctors. In order to accurately record notes, observations, orders, and other important information, they travel with doctors to rounds and visits. Orders for examinations, operations, and other treatments are compiled and processed by them. Since they do not provide medical care and typically have little to no direct patient contact, their duty is restricted to observation and documentation.
Medical scribes are also responsible for ordering any tests or medications necessary for the patient’s care. They are in charge of scheduling follow up appointments and any necessary referrals. Medical scribes also help with patient flow by leading the patient to the next step of their care. As a medical scribe, it is also your responsibility to ensure the accuracy of medical records.
