MEDICAL SCRIBING
A medical scribe is a paraprofessional in the allied health field who focuses on documenting doctor-patient interactions as they happen, such as during physical exams. Also, they locate data and patients for doctors and finish the paperwork required for patient treatment.
Roles and Responsibilities of a medical scribe :
1. Record patient information accurately and quickly into the Electronic Health Record: The Medical Scribe is responsible for accurately and quickly entering patient information into the EHR during the patient interaction. This includes medical history, diagnosis, medications, treatments, and any other relevant information.
2. Assist with documentation of patient encounters: The Medical Scribe is responsible for helping to document the patient encounter, including the patient’s chief complaint, medical history, physical exam, and treatment plan.
3. Monitor patient flow and help maintain the schedule: The Medical Scribe is responsible for monitoring patient flow and helping to keep the schedule flowing in a timely manner. This includes managing the wait list, notifying the next patient to be seen, and helping to coordinate the patient’s visit.
4. Help retrieve patient records: The Medical Scribe is responsible for helping to retrieve patient records from other facilities and/or providers. This includes contacting other facilities and/or providers, obtaining the records in a timely manner, and entering them into the EHR.
5. Assist with patient communication: The Medical Scribe is responsible for helping to facilitate communication between the provider and the patient. This includes answering any questions the patient may have,
