MEDICAL SCRIBING
A medical scribe is a physician's assistant who records patients' family and medical histories, treatments, allergies, lab results, and any information dictated to them or relevant to the patient's visit. A medical scribe often writes as a doctor would, checking for errors because they are familiar with medical terminology and have some clinical experience.
Medical scribes communicate with doctors during a live patient visit via video or audio call, though depending on the employer, they may also meet in person. Scribes have access to sensitive information and patient medical records. As a result, they must quickly grasp and take accurate notes from the conversation.
Medical scribes must be detail-oriented because they are responsible for understanding the physician's conversation and entering the information into the EHRs. Scribes must also be able to detect errors while preparing other clerical documents. It is critical that they be able to correct any documentation errors or speak with doctors or supervisors about them.
